Step Inside the Old Grain Office

Redgum Estates has occupied this corner of Parkes since the grain-weighing days, and the building still carries a few of its old fittings.

History

Ninety Years by the Siding

The building went up in the years before the war, a plain brick office where grain from the Central West was weighed before it went onto the trains.

When the siding closed, the building sat empty for a decade before Redgum Estates opened its doors in Parkes, keeping the long counter and the roof trusses as they were.

Locals still point out the old loading door at the back, bricked in now, and the faint painted lettering above it that no one has bothered to remove.

The brick front of Redgum Estates at dusk, the old siding door still marked with its original number.
